Household Items You Can Use As Cleaning Solutions

Great DIY Cleaning Products

Being cleaners in Bramhall for so many years means that we know a thing or two about housekeeping. Tackling many different home cleaning tasks can be quite a daunting task for many people, especially if they are trying to be as environmentally friendly as possible too. You may not know, for example, that there are many products and items already in your home that you can use as a home cleaning product. This is why we have pulled together this post to share with you some of the tricks of the trade.

ButterDIY Cleaning Products

Yes, you read that right, butter. Generally, butter is something you associate with mess, but butter is actually a fantastic product that can be used in many home cleaning situations. Butter contains natural oils that are great for getting rid of something that is sticky. Let’s say you have managed to get some glue on your fingers, for example, just rub them with a bit of butter before washing them and you should find that the glue comes off easily. Butter also works well on tree sap, so if you find that your car has been covered in this sticky stuff after you have parked near a tree, then just rub some soft butter on the spots of sap then rinse it off with soapy water.

Lint Rollers

A lint roller is obviously a great product to have to hand to clean up clothing on the go, but you can also use one to remove dust on delicate surfaces and lampshades as well.

Toothpaste

Not just a good product for cleaning your teeth, toothpaste can also be used to remove spots and blemishes from chrome taps and leave them sparkling clean again. If you’re a keen chef, one useful tip is to rub a little toothpaste on your hands after you’ve been cooking with garlic or fish – it will really freshen them up.

Tumble Dryer Sheets

If you have a tumble dryer which you use tumble dryer sheets in, then you have to hand another great cleaning product. This is a must have item if you have pets in your home, as if you run a sheet over your sofa or other furniture, it will pick up all the stray pet hairs on there. You can also use tumble dryer sheets to clean any residue off your iron – just set the heat on low and rub the sheet over it.

Vodka

Most people tend to have a bottle of vodka in the house as it is a versatile spirit for cocktails and so on, but did you know it has great cleaning powers as well? If you are suffering from mould in the bathroom, for example, just spray on a mixture of water and vodka as the alcohol in the vodka will kill the mould. Leave it to soak in for a few minutes and then it should be easy to wipe away. Vodka also works well as a glass polishing solution, just wet a microfiber cloth with some vodka and use it to polish your windows and mirrors.

So, before you go out and buy lots of chemical cleaning products, think about what you already have in your home that you can use instead.
