Office Cleaning: The Do’s and Don’ts

As a company who look after office cleaning in Stockport, we know that the average worker in the UK spends around 38 hours a week at their workplace. This length of time spent in one place can sometimes lead to a messy work environment, but nobody wants to work surrounded by piles of paper and mess, do they?  A messy office can not only affect the productivity of the people who work there, but also can give the wrong impression to potential clients who enter the building. This is why it is really important to keep your workplace tidy, and so we have pulled together some top tips on how to maintain some degree of cleanliness within your office:

Your Desk

DO: set up a folder system where you can file all of your necessary papers. First thing in the morning, go through any papers on your desk and file them in the correct place, and throw any unneeded ones in the bin.

DON’T: Just throw your papers around carelessly. If you don’t need a piece of paper anymore make sure it is in the bin, and don’t leave papers haphazardly around your desk or on the floor.

Electronic Items:

DO: Clean your computer and printer once a week as a thick layer of dust can mean that these machines stop working. There are many products available on the market to help you keep your keyboard clean and tidy, and you should always use a micro fibre cloth on your screen in order to ensure you do not scratch it. If you have an office telephone, make sure you wipe it with an antibacterial wipe so that germs are not spread around so easily.

DON’T: Do not eat at your desk as you risk damaging your electronic items with crumbs and liquid. Never use a dry cloth to clean your electronic items as they may scratch the screens, always make sure the cloth is slightly damp.

Eating:

DO: take a break and go and eat somewhere away from your desk. It not only helps you to break your day up and stretch your body but will help you to keep your desk cleaner and tidier as well.

DON’T: Never eat at your desk. You are likely to stain either your desk or your electronic items, and this is generally frowned upon.

Your Stuff:

DO: Acquire some shelves and label them, and then keep all of your necessary equipment and paperwork stored in a tidy and organised way. This will help to keep you more productive as well, as you will be easily able to find things when you need them.

DON’T: Do not get in the habit of scattering things all over your office and making the workplace untidy. Once you stop using a filing system of some sort, then your office can quickly become a mess.

Toilets:

DO: Give your office cleaner a hand by making sure you always flush the toilet before you leave and that you wash your hands in a tidy away as possible.

DON’T: Don’t try and flush plastic items or items that will cause a blockage.

These are the basic do’s and don’ts of office cleaning, but to ensure your office is always in tip top condition, with happy staff who are ready to receive visitors, you should take on the services of an office cleaning company in Stockport.
